Hello everyone, Stacy here. I hope everyone is doing well and keeping themselves out of trouble. I am posting a little blog today as I want to keep you all updated on what Eimear and I have been doing over the last few weeks. I have also got some very exciting news that I have been keeping on the down-low, but all will be spilt by the end of this blog post!
I have spent the last 13 weeks with Away A Wee Walk carrying out my work placement for my final year foundation degree in marketing. I found Eimear through the college I attend which is Belfast Metropolitan College. I was over the moon that she had asked me to complete my work placement with her business as I not only have an interest in marketing, but the travel and tourism sector has a massive part in my heart through previously completing a foundation degree in travel and tourism in 2019.
Over the last 13 weeks, I have learnt so much with Eimear and Away A Wee Walk. Before starting my placement, I knew the basics of marketing and honestly, I felt like I would be useless to Eimear compared to the other peers in my class. However, I did also know that I would be an asset since I knew a good bit about the travel and tourism sector. Looking back at where I was, I can now say confidently that I have gained so much more knowledge around the marketing sector just by being with Away A Wee Walk for 13 weeks. I can use WordPress to design websites whereas I didn’t even know what to do with WordPress only 4 weeks ago. I know how to use different marketing theories and how to apply them to a business to get results. I even have the confidence to say that I can publish blogs and speak openly on social media platforms such as Instagram. I have gained so many interpersonal skills being with Eimear which I know will take me far in my career.
Eimear has been a Godsend and I am so thankful that I was able to meet her. She and her business has given me a real insight into both the marketing and travel and tourism sectors, which I wouldn’t have been able to experience anywhere else. It has shown me exactly where I want to go in my future career and has made me even more determined to make it in this type of field. I would honestly push anyone to get into a course that offers work placement as it is much more fun and exciting way to learn, while also letting you discover exactly what kind of career is right for you.
It makes me very sad to say this but my placement has come to an end. I am so grateful for everything Eimear has taught me and all the things I have learnt while working with Away A Wee Walk. We have made so many memories both in the office and out on the field (click here to see some of the bloopers) and I just want to thank her for everything she’s done for me so far.
With that being said, I think I should end this post on some positive news! The thing I have been keeping a little secret for some time now is that I will be returning to volunteer for Away A Wee Walk for the foreseeable future. I am however taking 5 weeks out to enjoy a bit of the summer, fingers crossed we all get one, but I will return once the 5 weeks is over. I am very excited to see what the next year has lined up for both of us and I can’t wait to get back.
I hope you all have such a great summer, that’s all from me now and I’ll catch yous all very soon – I’m away for a wee walk.
